Save Your Knees - Save Your Sex Life

Save Your Knees: How to Keep Sex Fun (Without the Pain)

Let’s talk about something nobody warns you about… until it starts happening.

Knee pain during sex. Yep. It’s a thing.

And if you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “Why does this suddenly hurt?”—you’re not alone. Whether it’s aging, past injuries, workouts catching up to you, or just sensitive joints, your knees can quickly go from cooperative to cranky.

But here’s the truth: you don’t have to suffer through it to have great sex.

Your Knees Aren’t the Enemy—They’re Giving You Feedback

There are certain positions that put a lot of pressure directly on your knees—especially when you’re upright, bearing weight, and adding movement on top of it (you know the ones…).

That repeated pressure can lead to discomfort, irritation, and even lingering pain afterward.

But instead of pushing through it, I want you to start asking:“How can I work with my body instead of against it?”

Because small adjustments can completely change the experience.

Get Off Your Knees (Literally)

One of the simplest solutions?Take the pressure off—by changing positions.

This might look like:

  • Shifting into side-lying positions (hello comfort + connection)

  • Moving into standing positions where your legs are supported differently

  • Using the edge of the bed so your body is supported without kneeling

  • Bringing in a couch or chair for stability and leverage

You can even take things into different rooms—yes, the kitchen counts. Changing the environment often naturally shifts how your body moves and supports itself.

And bonus? It keeps things a little more playful and adventurous.

Props Are Your Best Friend

In my Sex Positions segment (shoutout to the Mattress Dogzzz bed 🛏️), I show how using props can make a huge difference.

Think:

  • Pillows under hips or thighs

  • Cushioned surfaces instead of hard ones

  • Anything that reduces direct pressure on your joints

You’re not “cheating” by using support—you’re being smart about your body.

Expand What Sex Looks Like

If your go-to routine puts stress on your knees, it might be time to mix things up.

Sex doesn’t have to follow one script.

You can explore:

  • Slower, more supported movements

  • Different types of touch and connection

  • Positions that prioritize comfort over performance

When you allow flexibility in how you’re intimate, you actually create more options—not fewer.

Talk About It (Yes, This Part Matters Again)

Just like with any body-based challenge, communication is key.

If something hurts and you don’t say anything, your partner can’t help adjust. And over time, that can lead to avoidance, frustration, or disconnect.

Instead, try:

  • “Hey, my knees aren’t loving this position—can we shift?”

  • “I want to keep going, but I need something more comfortable”

That kind of honesty doesn’t ruin the moment—it builds trust and makes better sex possible.

This Is What Real-Life Sexy Looks Like

Bodies change. Joints get opinionated. And sex? It evolves right along with you.

The goal isn’t to force your body into what used to work. The goal is to adapt, explore, and stay connected.

Because when you take care of your body, your body is way more likely to show up for pleasure.
