Meet Angela Skurtu
Hi, I’m Angela Skurtu, M.Ed., LMFT-S, CST-S — Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist Supervisor, author, speaker, educator, business owner, and the founder of Open Bedroom Doors® and the Built to Last framework.
At the heart of everything I do is one mission:
Building relationships that last – in love, life and leadership.
For over 20 years, I’ve studied how humans connect, grow, communicate, heal, and build relationships that actually last — not just in marriage and sexuality, but in leadership, business, family systems, and personal identity. As I helped people with their sex lives, I began to notice that people were using the same skills for intimacy building in their businesses-honest communication, creating trust, and collaborative negotiation. As a result, I created The Built to Last Framework which teaches people how to heal in Mind, Body, Heart, Soul, and Spirit. This model helps people understand: • how humans learn, • how nervous systems respond to stress and safety, • how relationships evolve, • what creates emotional intimacy, • what blocks sexual connection, • and how people develop healthier identities and long-term visions for their lives.

The Open Bedroom Doors Approach
DIRECT • TRANSFORMATIVE • HONEST
Let’s be clear: I’m not here to sugarcoat things. Therapy isn’t about being polite—it’s about growth. Sometimes, you’ll leave feeling energized and motivated. Other times, you might leave pissed off because I pointed out the ways you’re sabotaging your happiness. But every session is designed to help you move forward.
I care deeply about my clients, and that means calling out what’s holding you back. Therapy is a partnership—you can challenge me, ask questions, and express your opinions. Together, we’ll build the life and relationship you want.

Why I Love Working With Couples
Why I Love Working With Couples
Couples therapy keeps me on my toes. Over the past 17 years, I’ve deep-dived into topics like parenting, finances, ADHD, sexuality, infidelity, ethical non-monogamy, conflict resolution, trauma, depression, and anxiety—because these are the things couples fight about.
I call myself a “sex scientist” and “couples scientist” because I test communication strategies, intimacy exercises, and conflict-resolution skills in real time. Research shows that asking “why” questions can make people defensive, while “what” questions foster problem-solving. So, I teach couples how to shift their language and test it in sessions. This process, which I call “hypothesis testing,” helps couples break toxic patterns and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
Sex is Life Therapy
Sex isn’t just about physical pleasure, it’s about connection, playfulness, and experiencing life fully. Too many people settle for mediocre intimacy and routine-driven relationships. I help couples reignite passion by fostering emotional connection, rediscovering playfulness, and prioritizing pleasure.
Your whole body is capable of giving and receiving pleasure. Your relationship can be vibrant, adventurous, and fulfilling. You deserve more than just getting through the day. You deserve a relationship that makes you feel alive.
