About the Show
The idea for the Open Bedroom Doors Show started with a simple question from my 10-year-old daughter. One night, while reading an age-appropriate sex education book together, she looked at me and asked, “Is naked sexy?” As a sex therapist, I talk about sex every day, but suddenly I found myself searching for words a child could understand. I explained that sometimes naked is playful, sometimes it's sexy, and sometimes it's simply practical, like taking a bath or getting dressed. We laughed, danced around the room, and moved on with our evening.
A few days later, I found myself having nearly the same conversation with a 40-year-old client. When I suggested she and her partner spend time together naked without the expectation of sex, she looked terrified. She genuinely didn't realize that nudity, intimacy, and sexuality could exist outside of intercourse. In that moment, I repeated the exact lesson I had given my daughter. That's when it hit me: a child and an adult were struggling with the same concept because neither had received enough healthy sex education.
That realization became the foundation for the Open Bedroom Doors Show. Every day, I meet people who are suffering, not because sex is inherently complicated, but because no one ever taught them how to think, talk, and learn about it in healthy ways. I created the show to offer free, accessible sex education that helps people build better relationships with themselves, their partners, and their bodies. Sex education is abuse prevention, relationship education, and life education. If we want healthier generations in the future, we have to start having better conversations today.
